two updates

so i got another piece for What's Up Annapolis. they wanted a drawing for kids packing for overnight camp, and i went for a more conceptual approach. also, the tree may or may not become part of my promo stuff. :D

also, i got my dummy book for "this little light of mine" printed, with three final pages. here's the cover, and the three pages i took to final. the rest are going to be finished in the next few weeks and sent to be printed. i will let you know when copies are available for sale!

summer quarter is over, and it was surprisingly a lot of fun. june seems like ages ago, though... 20 hours of class in 10 weeks was a crazy amount of work but i dont think i hated any of it. i got a lot of awesome work out of these summer classes, and found a new successful style, so i look forward to exploring the options within that more.

i'm going to go clean my apartment and get ready to GO HOME!!!

finals for annapolis! also am getting a third piece published by what's up annapolis, for packing for overnight camps! hooray!

Success!

I'm getting published in the magazine "What's Up, Annapolis?"!!! They liked both of my sketches, so I'm going to move forward with both of these:

I'm really excited! Thank you, Annapolis!!!!The first one is about taking care of your skin in the winter. "Love the skin you're in." A woman is moisturizing her chapped lips. It will be a spot.

The second is about "Hosting a stress-free holiday party" and has Rosie the Riveter hosting, "We can do it!" style.

this little light of mine

i've started my new childrens book! it's based on the hymn "this little light of mine" and features a series of children sharing the faith and love of a lightning bug's light. semi-surreal and new age, this book is geared for 4 to 6-year-olds who believe in the magic and wonder of god, and for their parents, who like to encourage this.

i'm still in storyboarding and designing stage, but it should be at least 50% complete in 5 weeks. hooray for books!

first post!

ok so because i'm going to be a real person in 4 months' time, it's time to start trying to look professional! i just bought my new domain name, http://rachelwharton.com, so please go visit! it is still in the working stages right now as i fight with sitebuilder and css, but never fear! i will overcome.

this blog will be more for me giving updates on new projects, job hunts, online galleries, daily image updates, personal life and happy things, etc. i'm really excited to be part of the real world soon, and i hope you all enjoy keeping up with me!

so i'll get us started out easy here:

my name is rachel. i'm an illustration student at the savannah college of art and design. i'm graduating in november, and my goal is to get a job with a children's book publishing company. unfortunately i'm not banking on that goal right now so i'll be looking for internships in atlanta, new york and san francisco.

i like watching movies, finding new music, talking to people, making things, reading books, drinking coffee, snuggling my one and only love tater (my pup), sleeping and dreaming. the dorkiest thing i do is roleplay on a harry potter website. my favorite thing to draw is the human face. i am easily amused. i believe in magic.

so there's a little about who i am. please stalk my blog and my website!

just to give you an idea of what i do, here's a quick sample of my artwork.

this is a poster i did for poster class. its a digital watercolor of my muse telling me what to do. usually she kicks my butt, but i do whatever she says... because she said so... its a tough world.
